breathed a toxic air into words
twisted a simple message
looked square into its face
and quickly died.

Well, I happen to like this very much. When I read the word "twisted" I was struck by how much I felt it belonged in this poem.Your poem set my mind to thinking about Perversion in general and specifically about how people twist and turn upside down thoughts and feelings.
Thanks for this read.

I forgot to mention that I felt the dying was losing touch with what is pure and right...like God.

Maybe I tainted myself by reading the other comments first. It is not my normal way of doing things because I usually reply and then read the other writers take. They had the same take that I did. They felt what I felt. I'm tired, not physically, but spiritually because of the words you share. I don't know why I'm tired because I am the worst offender. To do what is right I cannot find within my soul. To know what is right becomes far simpler. For your information I have learned to keep my mouth shut even when I want to SCREAM. One hypocrite's view. Don't count me out, I'm still a small child inside. RC

A layered poem, in meaning and in intensitiy ....
and for me highly spiritual. The words of Jesus, written in Red Letters, are often twisted, and instead of breathing Life, we breathe perversions and cause souls to die ...
Of course, you know I am One-track minded
A red-letter day also refers to a very important Day, memorable and significant ... soooo ... we are in the time of separatation. Tainting good words, good memories, good feelings, into toxic residu, which gives no relationship any chance whatsoever.
I love your duettes. It gives me an opportunity to rant
... And the reader brings to the poem his or her own interpretation, not so, and complete it in many, many ways.

Love to you, Precious. I shall con-verse with my Muse about your contest.

Interesting form. I will send a message privately with my interpretation because it will be interesting to see what people make of this. Once upon a time the meaning would have been clear to most, but perhaps I date myself. (and I'm a cheap date) LOL.

Here's my original interpretation:
Regarding Perversion:
The red letters are the words of Christ, which we have twisted to suit our own desires. The line about quickly dying refers to our separation from the grace of Christ's forgiveness and compassion -- certainly a form of death that precedes the final death.
At least, that's my interpretation -- and I'm guessing that is what you had in mind. How many will get it? I'll have to come back here from time to time to see what people think. What a fascinating write and form.
