We stand in silence in remembrance of those that died.
If a million years shall pass it will not be far enough
for those that committed these acts to escape from God.
All that many of us could do was let the tears flow down
our cheeks.
Because the silence of the voices that were stilled sounded
louder than any cannon.
The world was surely changed that day and its infamy cannot be
taken back.
But we know now that among the horror of twisted metal and acrid flame fed fires, there was valor.
Uncommon treachery did not change uncommon courage.
The blood of men of all nations mingled but its color did not change.
The yellow that you see is on the one that sent his minions to
dirty the red, white and blue, but our flag is still there.
There are still fifty stars on that flag as those from all countries and states became immortal on 911.
There was honor among those that fought hard to save lives
and a resolve that we are still a nation.
Perhaps bloodied, bent but unbowed.
Tyrany did not change that but we did, because we know that
we can never turn our back on the enemy that feeds all hate.
So therefore let us stand in silence and remember what made us
the United States of America.
My memory still is here and that will not change and I still say
God Bless The USA.
Author notes
I was scheduled to have surgery to remove a cancerous kidney on September 12, 2001. I became determined to beat it after 911 and the terrible loss affected me deeply. I am still here and I hope that we will remember that day for as long as it takes.

Excellent. I could feel your emotion as I read this. I'm glad you got through your surgery and I'm sure nothing will ever affect you more than this. Great poem. Good luck in the contest.
