I was happy today
Not that fake happy
Not the self-induced happy
Not the sugar-high happy
But really
I was happy today
I don't even know why
It's something I haven't felt

I can't even count the days
Today was different though
I was happy today
There was no lingering pain
No tears threatening me
Just a fun little test
With more fun afterwards
I beat a video game too
My fifth cycle through it
All the more happy for me
I didn't even need a crutch
It came on its own
Without sugar, without air
Not a pill in sight
I'm very glad
I was happy today
