Today my spirit sang to the Universal Spirit within me
Of the legacy of gold that poured through my window
The trail of glowing light flowed along the amber floor
To touch my person as I stood radiating gratitude
For I wandered along a winding path for many years
With sightless eyes sown shut with iron thread
Salivating wolves followed at my feet
Craving a taste of my heroin soaked sweat
Forty draining years sapped the dew from my body
Until I lay as dry bones in a corpse filled pit
Yet a pearly pair of blazing eyes
Had followed my every jarring step
Their magnetism drew me so I arose
And began to flex my muscles and my fingers
Walking weakly across the sands of time
The journey was hazardous but I was led by a look
That seemed to echo my self-perception
An oracle etched within my being
‘I am and always will be’ thus I arrived at forty

You have handled the contest prompt well. I did enjoy this very much.
Some very good imagery in this piece.
"Forty draining years sapped the dew from my body
Until I lay as dry bones in a corpse filled pit"
these two lines were especially effective in this poem.
Nicely done. Best of luck in the contest. ~Pamela
