My Strength Around my Neck

Yet again another day,
and here I lie awake.
Gift of body taken care of,
to have, to hold, to break.
Lift up head and feel it click,
another fresh wave of pain,
go to lift the left arm up high,
the shoulder dislocates again...
Stretch up tall as high as the sky,
to crouch down small as a mouse.
The stupid therapist calls again,
summoning me out of the house.
Around my neck in gemstone form,
the lions courage, red.
To have and held to lend a bit,
when my own reserves are dead.
Run the streets to do my round,
I must get on with my life.
Jump a step, a bone wrenching crack,
wrong trainers...Chloe was right.
Back at school, very few know,
only those who help me the most.
Turquenite hangs at my nape
the pain, successes cost.
Never will these be removed,
my hearts, my comfort still.
These stones to give me guidance and,
to lend me courage and will.

Judging of the Contest, Nature Heals. The entries were all so beautiful. The gold trophy was easy to judge. “Tree of Love” for option number 2. The rest weren’t quite so clear cut. I awarded a trophy for each best entry per option, and then honorable mentions for the other two. I must admit, I have a real soft spot for mothers and grandmothers. And these were the two that won the silver and the bronze. “Precious Radiant Gem” won the silver for option number 3. After reading this poem, it was one that stayed with me to the end; the endearing love of a mother represented by a gem always worn about the poet’s neck. “Beautiful Ray of Perfection” won the bronze for option number 1. I was extremely moved by this eloquent and loving tribute to the poet’s grandmother. These were both new poems that were written specifically for this contest. If there were more trophies to give out, many more would have won. I gave “The Laughing Brook” an honorable mention for option #4. “The Touch of a Friend” won an honorable mention for option #5. There were 22 more honorable mentions; and here is the list. All lovely and worthy of this and more. I cannot tell you how grateful I am for all of your entries, especially the ones that wrote especially for this contest. A special thanks goes To the other judges, Theresa and Nikki, whose help was invaluable. We were unanimous about the gold trophy. If you have time, I highly recommend that You read “Tree of Love” . It is one of the most beauteous poems that I have read in a long time. All of the contest entries were commented on at least once by me and the other judges. I enjoyed reading them all and felt extremely enriched by it. Aww and Ahh! What a gut-wrenching yet pretty poem combining both the earthy realities of life with hope and healing. I am sorry for your pain. Waking up to the obstacles we must face each day can indeed be very difficult, but you are brave and you have your healing crystals. It is my belief that the Divine gave us these energy channels and mediums to bring us light and healing energy. Your poem is certainly a blessing to read and I pray for all the best for you. I am honored that you shared this lovely poem with us.
