nan and pop had this car
green with leather seats
my butt would burn
on long drives back home
eating water ice in the backseat
thinking that life should be like this
everyday
collecting caterpillars
and playing cards
the hose pumping out water
for me to run through
cold water on my hot skin
heaven
the best
was at night
they would sit out front
as i chased lightning bugs
i trapped them in mason jars
like i wanted to trap time
i remember her smile
i remember his laugh
though i forgot what
life is all about
