I like the limerick better than the sonnet—
The rhyme and meter spice monotony.
False depth gives way to wit, and you can bet
That nothing hints of lost fidelity.
Iambic death is lessened when removed
From all the fourteen lines where it resides.
And in the end I think my point is proved
When lively AABBA presides.
Not one quatrain need cause unwelcome rage,
As five lines grace all of the readers’ eyes,
With words that briefly bounce across the page,
Instead of length that most of us despise.
I believe that the sonnet has no point,
And as with me, will always disappoint.
Author notes
We had to write a sonnet for English, so I chose to right one on how I disliked them.
