the Ones Left Behind

HEART AND SOUL SONGS

THE ONES LEFT BEHIND
By: hopeles_romantic

We send their parents off to war.
Many to young to know what mom or dad are fighting for.
They wake in the middle of the night and hear their momma
cry.
Mom is never happy with dad away, she says she's fine but
even the youngest ones know it is a lie.
They talk with grandma and grandpa about how they miss their
dad, and how mom always seems so sad.
Down the street the story is almost the same.
Except mom's the one sent away and her children have no
clue who's to blame.
They are absent from daddy daughter day, and miss the home
runs and touchdowns scored at all the big games.
Mom isn't there for the baby's first steps, to kiss skinned knees or hear the stories about Tina the Unicorn with the purple mane.
Their husband or wife struggle to fill the void!
Trying to be both parents to ensure that all their children's times are enjoyed.
They make sure the kids are always hugged and kissed!
And with a hurting lonely heart they try so hard to make up for the parent that is so missed!
In the next town over a mom is baking cookies and boxing up a care package for her kid.
And along with essentials she makes sure to fill the box with
love and prays before she closes the lid.
Down at the pub dad's talking to his buddies telling them
stories they have heard a hundred times before.
He is so proud, but in his face you can see just how much his child is missed! And each day he prays for an end to this War.
At the church on the corner Family and friends talk with God
each and every day.
Asking for the safety of all their loved ones as they pray.
In town after town so many lives are forced to adjust,
and with our loved ones missing only in God can we trust.

Another unit ships out today.
Men and women stand proud with lumps in their throats, an ache in their hearts and with tears in their eyes their good-byes they say.
Lots of hugs and kisses are shared all around.
But of thousands of people not a smile is found.
Tears fill the crowd as they slowly move away.
And every man, women, and child wishes so hard they could
stay!
As they board the plane each one takes one last look and with a worried mind,
They say a prayer for God to protect the loved ones they leave behind.

You've painted a picture of a scene that I'm afraid happens all too often. So many of our young men and women being shipped off and no end in sight. I pray they all make it back safely but I know that won't happen. Great write. Take care and Have fun. Steve
