I've know her since her day of birth.
When God sent her here, and brought my heaven to earth.
He packaged it in a sweet little girl.
How was I to know he had just changed my world.
With her sweet little smile, and her big brown eyes.
The joy she brings is no surprise.
For a decade there has been no greater joy to know.
Than the joy I've found as I watch her grow.
When she was little grandma told her birdie stories so true,
But I convinced her that girl trees are pink, and boy trees are blue.
Heck when she was just a little thing I got her to love the dinosaur.
Then I named Her Desi little monster, and taught her to roar.
Now she even thought being Desi little monster was kinda cool.
Back before she got a little older and they sent her off to school.
For the longest time she thought that grandpa knew everything there was to know.
Oh God do I miss those days so!
But she knows she has me wrapped around her little finger,
and she can always get her way.
She just gives me those big brown puppy dog eyes,
that sad cheesy smile, and I always melt. What can I say!
I love my fishing partner, and movie buddy!
I hope I don't lose that as she grows,
but she is already into boys. She Loves Chris Brown.
So as time goes by who knows.
I will always be grateful to my daughter Sarah, her mom,
and her father Joe for the gift they have given me.
All the memories and joy in my life that I cherish,
that come from the joy of Destiny.
The world may give me lots of things,
but I'm so happy to say
that there is no greater joy
than the joy that Destiny brings!

This was a really sweet poem about your granddaughter. My granddaughter's middle name is Destiny and this reminded me of her. Thanks for entering and good luck

This was beautiful and so sweet. What a wonderful little girl you have as a granddaughter! The relationship between a grandparent and a child is just so precious. I am so glad I still have my grandma, though my grandpa has passed away. I love him and miss him. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem with me.

This is a very sweet poem!
The rhyme was good and even though it was a long poem, it kept me reading.
Who doesn't love Chris Brown
Good Luck!

Wow, how truly heartfelt, touching, & beautiful. This was a precious write, in which your granddaughter must absolutely love and will treasure for all her life and pass it on to her children one day. All your memories pour out so gracefully in this. Such a treasure to read..
Thanks for entering & best of luck

Destiny of our lives
Things come our way to teach us about life. From the small baby in our arms to the largest mountain outside our window. Sweet and personal slice of life. Sorry I cannot advance you to the finalist's list because the first line is not "I remember when", but Destiny still gives me joy to see. Thank you for contributing

Well this will never be kicked out because I like religous stuff!! This is very cute. As a grandchild, I could see from your grand-daughter's point of view. Also, I could see how my Grandmother feels as I grow up. Very heart warming and the best of luck!

This is such a wonderful heart felt poem about your girl!!! I'm so glad you have her in your life. I have another granddaughter, she just turned 11...
This is such a beautiful poem, when you see your Destiny, give her a big hug just for me. Thank you for letting me read about your treasured memories... -
A clearly cherished relationship that you have both enjoyed. I enjoyed your descriptions "my fishing partner and movie buddy" and the games you shared (tree colors and roaring). Loved the "for the longest time she thought that grandpa knew everything there was to know." A sense of wistfullness for the past and uncertainty of the future. We often need to ask and really listen to discover what growing children would most wish to do with us, to keep the memories a-making and relationships connected!
As for suggestions, you have excellent content, and the rhyming is good, but it could be an even stronger poem with a consistent meter. I enjoyed it.

This is heartwarming, it is pleasant to read about gushing affection sometimes! Your grand-daughter is a lucky girl, and you are a lucky man.
Congratulations for your trophy.

-
Beautiful write. Congratulations on your Bronze.

-
wow, this is just so full of love and adoration - I hope she reads this someday and is reminded of your time together - when she had a granddaughter of her own - she will finally understand. This is really genuine. Thanks so much for entering.

i really like this one, although it is sad... but my favorite line is the last one: "FOR THE LONGEST TIME SHE THOUGHT THAT GRANDPA NEW EVERYTHING THERE WAS TO KNOW." i just like how it doesn't just strait come out and say we've grown appart but it's very subtle about implying it. enjoyed it a keep up the good work. and good luck!
-
awwww this is so sweet, I can feel the love you have for this person when reading this. Best of wishes for you and your family.

-
This is such a sweet piece for someone who obviously holds a special place in your heart and in your life. I hope you share this with her. On a side note... I have to agree with the previous commenter in regards to using all capitals.

haven't read it yet; but, as a suggestion, don't type poems in all capital letters.... it makes people not want to read them.
aww. that's the sweetest thing I've read all day! I am a little confused, is it a grand-daughter or a daughter? It's very sweet, I like the rhyming scheme a lot! I'm sure Desi will love it when she's old enough to truely appreciate poetry
welcome to the website!
