She sat at her dinner table
Facing her spouse,
Spoon held aloft,
Eyes glazed over in thought.
She remembered when they had met,
How it had felt to experience
The thrumming of her attraction,
To see the look in his eyes,
Soft and inviting.
Her mind tumbled over
Sweet memories of new love,
Lust burning in her cheeks and loins.
He had a gentle touch and
Spirituality they both held dear.
She remembered when they married,
He stopped by a wood
And picked wild flowers
For her to carry.
It had almost stopped her heart,
Filling it with so much love.
She saw them laughing.
She saw them fighting.
She recalled the relief
Of being in his arms,
Flooding her with tenderness.
So many years evolving into
A bored familiarity that hung
Quietly over them,
Obscuring all the passions,
The acute awareness of their bond.
Dinner over, she got up
To clear the dishes.
As she reached for his plate,
He touched her hand and smiled.
Looking into her eyes,
He said, "I love you, dear,"
And as she smiled back at him,
She felt the thrumming,
The rush of love returning.

Very good viewpoint for the whole poem, you get to visualize the past story, while at the same time picturing the womans body language and facial expressions as she thinks. I LOVE the idea of italicizing the present parts. The language and vocabulary were more than proficient, too. Well-rounded, great poem, and not too lengthy either. Well done
