Villanelle for Ron

In troubled times, maintain good cheer,
do nothing that you would regret,
and cherish loved ones while they're near.

Mortality brings normal fear,
for none returned reporting yet;
in troubled times, maintain good cheer,

and think on what you hold most dear,
for what you love you won't forget,
and cherish loved ones while they're near.

We may not live another year,
so make the most of time you get;
in troubled times, maintain good cheer.

With forward looking eyes we steer,
the end is unrevealed as yet,
so cherish loved ones while they're near.

Though later we will shed our tears,
today we laugh with friends well met.
In troubled times, maintain good cheer
and cherish loved ones while they're near.

    Dear Margaret

    Joy has this poem now with your name at the end. It is good poetry but further, somnething I can pass down to my children's children.

      Thanks Ron!

      Ron, you really have lived up to your naming! I'm happy to give you and your family some pleasure with my writing. You have seen this before, and I am simply pleased that you looked at this again and left a word for me.

    This is so well-done; I am in much admiration for poets who can do this form lyrically and without any sense of forcing the rhymes or sense of it. A beautiful tribute.

    Lovely villanelle, and sweet tribute to a friend. Fine choices for repeating lines. We never know when our time here will finish, so instead of worrying, our time would be best spent as you suggest, laughing with friends well met and cherishing loved ones yet near.

    A wonderful poem for a wonderful man.

    This is a beautiful poem, much deserved by Ron, our mate. I can so no more, for this is too emotional for me...all I say is thank you Margaret and God bless you, Ron, who is our blessing..

      Thank you Richard. Ron saw this as Winklings Account in April, however it is always nice to be praised and reminded of praise.
