Hello, I'm John... and I Love You.
There's something about not knowing you that makes me go
"ooo, baby. Let's get married"
Before we realize that we are both bottom lip kissers
Before I drop all of my plans and ambitions to support your whims
Before I'm allergic to your cat and perfume.
Oh, let's buy matching outfits!
Wear our flaws on our sleeves
You...You chew with your mouth open
and I change the channels too fast
And you never understand my jokes!
But I'm so excited about our libidos mismatching
helping us save money on condoms, candles, and pregnancy tests!
Let's celebrate our anniversary with "What did you say?"
Or "You never sweep me off my feet."
Now, don't get me wrong. I promise I'll struggle to keep this going.
I'll leave coupons for Subway and my last stick of gum on your pillow...
Framed by my stray hairs.
I will snuggle up to you when you're telling me about your day
and fall asleep.
I'll eat the chocolates you don't like...
or... used to... but I definitely will leave your favorites!
Or we can just skip the frantic romantic bullshit
and put some points in what matters.
Tell me your middle name?
How do you hold hands?
What's your favorite number... and why?
I'll count the drops of rain on your lips if you promise
to keep time on the pitter patter puddles.
Let only locks of hair come between us
and the occasional pillow fight.
Bring on the conversations of blinks and wandering hands
exploring back streets of goosebumps, ribs, and shivers.
I'll find my new favorite restaurant two blocks south of your bellybutton
and get lost on the walk home when I followed the northern star in your eyes,
but that's fine by me... let's take the scenic route.
There's nothing but this and us,
just a sense of something inexplicable.
I won't promise answers... nor estimated guesses.
Only that this will be real when you open your eyes.
Granted, this is just some love poem, but if I could change the world
I'll make sure to keep you in it... right next door
so when we meet randomly, I can say:
Hi, I'm John... it's nice to meet you.

Geezus!
John! Wow! I found myself browsing around saying, "No wonder why I didn't miss this place." Then, I decided to check your page out to see what was new with you. This piece is just fantastic. I can smell your influences with this one. The imagery was so good, I could practically see it playing out in front of me. My favorite part was the first line, 2nd stanza, lines 12-14, 2nd stanza and the last four lines in the 2nd stanza. Amazing write, john.
