War Of Life

A lonely face
Glaces out the two story window
Outside the sun is shining
Children playing
Inside she's screaming
The tears refuse to stop pouring
Her heart a machine
Which broke long ago
Shutting down her emotions
She feels nothing
Numb
As if injected with anesthetics

Battling against her controlling mind

Death never a threat

Simply a sanctuary

Nightmares rather than dreams

A family of battling soldiers

A war never complete

In the middle she stands

Dodging bullets

She tried to run

But to where

There is no question about her life

Mind and body tired

About to burn out

Like the flickering candle

The ashes charring the snow

Calling out

But no one cares to listen

She's dying inside

Hang in there

Be the dove that learned to fly

That light it shone

Through the dark tinted windows

A spotlight upon her face

Tears glisten

As they take their final bow

Before they cease to exsists

Her eyes are freed

From the endless sorrows

The last soldier standing

In this war of life

Although she has her battle wounds

She survived the worse

Stepping over those who've fallen

The peace in their closed eyes

Thankful that was not her

Laying in the dirt

It may have been her wish

In the beginning

Her mind has changed

She found her way

To gain self peace

At last she's loved

By the ones who started the war

They wrote their peace treaty

It's put into play

She found her hope

She found her wings

Now she flies

To return home again

Author notes

this was for a contest
the twist was to write 2 poems in one [one sad and one happy]
so the space is separting them
it's kind of like a story
and how the end is hopeful and happy

I like how you've related these two in one poem. The endings and the war related imagery are particularly powerful. Thanks for taking up this challenge.
