Thorozene

No birds sang for you that night
Their wings tore off, no bells in sight
Sanity drained out from your eyes
Taking control is the one I despise

It happened again, this event of pure pain
It's the violent storm that we can't explain
It's that sneaky demon who screams genocide
And can throw you as far as the world is wide

Staring me down is the face of your cries
The incursion is vile with a dreadful surprise
Thoughtless and helpless, I sit back and melt
Not one million words could explain how it felt

When you swallowed four bottles of Thorozene
The most horrible day that I ever had seen
Please don't play a role in this dark, tragic scene
You're too young to die, you're just seventeen

It startled and tore at my frightened heart
Honey, not even pills could tear us apart!
The birds can sing, those bells can chime
And I will save you... every time

Author notes

March 30, 2008... This is a true story. Awhile ago, I was on the phone with my girlfriend and she did take four bottles of Thorozene pills (it's an anti-psychotic)... I was on vacation at the time, but I woke up my parents and we called 911... it was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

this poem literally made me cry, it really hit home with me. you did an amazing job writing about an experience as sad as this. it just was so honest and so real. the ending was beyond sweet. the rhyming was also amazing and it also read very fluid. i appreciate your entry and good luck in the contest.

The ending is sweet, I mean it's a sad piece really, but saying you'll be there every time...I liked that.

    I'm on Thorazine...Kinda strange.

My favorite part. the word genocide is one of my favorites, I'm not 100% sure why, I just love the sound of the word. It always appeals to me when I read it. Not the meaning, cause that's just depressing, just the sound lol! I'm rambling again. Truly sorry.

I liked this a lot though =] Oddly sweet.
