Give me no Fairy Tale

Here is prince charming to rescue said damsel who is distressing
and here is the beautiful maid awaiting her knight on a white horse.
Are you kidding me?  These washed up tales are to depressing
Every princess, every hero who follows the exact same course.

I can’t live in a world where he is perfect beyond all compare
or where evil is tamed by one fateful kiss and love crushes night.
For I know that it would be a lie and there would be nothing there
but shallow dreams and silly hopes that cover love’s true light.

I want no happy ever after where no trouble lay ahead
I wish for no perfection which masks the flaws of another.
For this deception is an omen that your love will soon be dead
because you refuse to look at truth and what love is for the other.

So keep your silly knights who will sweep you off your naive feet.
Leave your perfect endings hidden far away from the light of day.
Give me the toils so my love can grow through the hardest sleet.
Give me experience to live no sad dream but find true love . . . I still pray.

I really like that this is not a bitter poem... the sentiment is well expressed... and I agree with you mostly - I just think that there are times when I like to be swept off my feet - forever would be a little trying though, I like working through difficulties with my partner - that is where the strength comes from - wonderful poem I love the way that you created this - amazing!

    Keep writing

If ever there was poem about disillusionment, here it is. It is not bitter, though, merely realistic, and a nice foil to certain sappy romantic fairy tales.

This is a wise poem. It is the only thing in life that makes sense. How wonderfully you've laid it out. Wake up,
girls! Real life is trouble, cares, learning and growing,
just like it reads here. I like your take on the age old fairy tales. Kudos!

Boo Hoo I want you to have at least one fairytale romance, even if its just for a day, Because when the toils get through growing around you,-------- Who knows. I liked it though.

    Wonderful write

And I have to agree with you live is not a fairy tale It would be nice some times if it was, But life has to be real, Things happen we have to take the joy with the sadness, the good with the bad. Thats part of life.
    I loved this stance;
"I want no happy ever after where no trouble lay ahead
I wish for no perfection which masks the flaws of another.
For this deception is an omen that your love will soon be dead
because you refuse to look at truth and what love is for the other."

Very cynical take on fairy tales....and I love it. You refuse to live in delusions. So keep your silly knights who will sweep you off your naive feet.
Leave your perfect endings hidden far away from the light of day.
Give me the toils so my love can grow through the hardest sleet.
Give me experience to live no sad dream but find true love . . . I still pray.

Very different~ you made some great points. Life's facts in a way don't usually have happily ever afters and i think it's a great thing to even look forward to hardships in life, for without them i don't think happiness and victory wouldn't mean much.

Hmmm, I guess i have had enough hardship in my life to want the happily ever after. I do understand where you are coming from.
