At the bottom of the stairway

The stairway to heaven; such a terrible climb
But the rewards once you've made it are great
Yet newcomers beware, at the foot of the stair
An outcast angel sits in wait

The stairway to heaven; at the heart of all songs
It's a wonder to all those who come near
If you heed these words not, if you ignore the lot
The fallen angel's pain will be clear

The stairway to heaven; some do not survive
Some fall from the many steep steps
She reached the light, but she fell from that height
And for all of eternity has wept

The stairway to heaven; a legend of old
But no word of the angel was ever heard
Her sin was too great, and now it's too late
To return to the God she angered

Author notes

I see an angel who was cast out of heaven, maybe because she fell in love with someone not there (because she is holding the roses). and the stair represents where she fell from, and how she can never make that climb again and win back grace.
