That ignited the affair.
It was a warm summer night,
You tried to put out the flare.
I know we needn't be bothered
By silly things like tears.
Let the flames take care of worries,
Let them consume old fears.
Yet something's still missing,
Something's not quite right...
Oh, but surely I don't feel that way
With a future burning so bright.
Of course They should take those things.
It'll lead to nothing but an end.
What an annoyance, this heartache.
Why don't we take a drink, my friend?
A toast to our happiness,
The casting off of old ways.
And if I don't speak,
What is there to say?
Author notes
Dystopian fiction FTW!
1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, Uglies, The Giver, Truesight...
But all of it can be applied here and now. Will we sit subdued by human vices, pleasures, shallow happiness and abandon looking for the depth of thought and of true happiness?
"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin." ~John the Savage, Brave New World
There's so many allusions in here it's not even funny.
The constent reference to fire (ignited, flares, flames, burning so bright) Fahrenheit 451.
Capitalized "They". Several allusions. Thought Police, maybe? 1984. Specials, maybe? Uglies. What about firemen? Fahrenheit 451
"Take a drink". Alcohol? Uglies. What about drugs? Soma? Brave New World.
