War has Begun

There's a weight in my heart,
I can't seem to lift.
Though blessed with many,
my soul seems to drift.

Dark clouds over-head,
continue to flow.
Unsure where I'm falling,
Does anyone Know?

Will someone please tell me,
how deep I must go?
To rise back again,
and return to my flow.

I'm fighting the darkness,
with all of my might.
I open my eyes,
what I see is not bright.

This horrible monster,
I bear within.
From out of nowhere,
the war must begin.

Without warning or signs,
it rips away joy.
He grows with such power,
with intent to destroy.

I scream to the world,
I will conquer this beast.
Please, a hug will suffice,
help my strength be released.

Author notes

RANT OPTION.
As often as I focus on my blessings in life, this depression monster strikes without warning. Once again the battle has begun, to fight my way back to the light. Please pray for me in this time of sadness. Thank you all.

    Excellent write

What a beautifully written poem. It has such an easy flow and the rhyme is really good but more so it was the way it made me feel. I don't know what you are going through or how you feel but after reading this I have tears in my eyes and ask the question "why". Thanks you so much for sharing this and I wish you well and keep writing.

Nikki! This breaks my heart. I so recognize the signs of depression and that feeling of darkness trying to take over and destroy all light and hope. It is a good thing to look at it as war. This empowers us to not give up the fight. Things do eventually get better I promise. Every day I light a candle and say a prayer for you, my sweet friend. We are here for you. You are loved and missed.

    Congrats on the silver!

Superb imagery. The darkness can come out of no where, it is so easy to get lost within. Your poem beautifully describes these feelings, and how daily we fight them away. Congrats on a well earned silver and good luck in your present contest

Great imagery! I like how you have personified depression and translated it to something that perhaps people who have never suffered for it can understand and comprehend. Thank you.

Oh dear Nikki I am so sorry for your pain and I can so relate. Depression is such a bad disease. I know I sometimes feel so guilty having my wonderful Jason and Jasmine here but I still can't bring myself back up from the bottom. I am here if you ever need to talk. I will continue to pray for you and all those who suffer from this awful disease. Such vivid imagery and emotion within your amazing write. love and Theresa

aah. And your mother was right...lol. If you have nothing nice to say, just dont say it at all. And were not here as pros, were here as people who have strong emotions. As I read through your poem, I could feel your passion growing to be strong and not to break down. This is truly good writing, when it speaks from the heart! Thank you and best of luck to you!! :]

Fantastic display of emotions here! And such tenacity! The demon of depression strikes violently and without regard-yet you show such strength. If only a hug could fix it all, people like you would deliver them by the dozens.
