The Mysterious Mishaps of Mingus and Mouse

Mingus the mongoose
married a mouse
and they both lived together
in a little brown house

Merrily they meddled
the Mouse and Mongee
`til one day a leopard
came in from the sea

He told them of things
the pair never knew
like a badger with trumpets
and a zebra in shoes

Hippos that danced
and camels that flew
back in his homeland
the great Timbucktoo

Mingus was shocked
and Mouse was undone
they could not believe
what the world had become

So they said with excitement
"Take us to see"
and the leopard he grinned and said
"Just stick with me"

Mingus helped Mousie
climb up onboard
as Leopard prepared
to sail abroad

The seas were unfriendly
the food supply scarce
the poor critters lived
off apples and pears

Now you may not know this
but I swear it's true
a leopard needs more than
just pearapple stew

So one night it happened
in the storm and the rain
as Mingus and Mousie
lay sleeping again

The leopard crept into
their cabin through dark
he made not a sound
he was stealth as a shark

But somewhere above
in the air, in the sky
lightening crashed down
and thunder rolled by

And poor little Mousie
awoke with a fright
She leaped from the bed
and turned on the light

And there was the Leopard
ready to feast
on a banquet of fish
he'd caught from the sea

"Come down from there Mousie"
He smiled with glee
"And wake up dear Mingus,
so we three might feed"

So Mousie came down
and Mingus was woke
and they ate through the night
with not a word spoke

By morn the storm vanished
their hungers had too
and they sailed on toward
the great Timbucktoo.

Author notes

I got sick of reading drivel to my daughter and thought "I can do better than that"
I happen to think I can do better than this but even this is better than the crappy books we've got.

ohh this is sweet! real cute and very sing-song.. you kept the flow well. I'm sure your daughter fell over with bubbles of laughter.
me too, I want a second part to this! oh, and yeah, trust me, this sounds much better than what's available in the market. who needs other books anyway when we have a poet in you??
    feel proud.

I thought this was cute. Great flow and it was very humorous. A mongoose and a mouse? Interesting. All I can say is, I hope it was a happy marriage for the two of them. Keep that pen flowing.

I knew as soon as I read the title this would be for your daughter. It's been so long since we've spoken. I hope your well.
I have a little cousin that loves stories and rhymes, I'll show this to him and let him be the judge.
I have no doubt that he'll love it
    Take care.
