Motivation

Neither within me
nor outside me,
but a Gift for my doing
alike my purpose.

Never a mechanism
of greed or need
that in hope I shall gain
what falsely pleases
both you and me.

It’s there for the doing,
because I have met Me -
a character within
that expands my Being.

Thank you for commenting on this poem. To understand motivation, I again researched the theories of motivation, and I have come to the conclusion it should not be based on an inner need, neither on an expectation 'out there'. Both hold you captive. I now believe that motivation is much like IQ, its there inside you for the using, not for the pondering or for the finding. It is found by 'meeting yourself' honestly and opnely. To me, it is as important as purpose. I do not know if you agree with me? Frans

        Most decidedly.
        As a long time "motivator"
of students in various aspects of art,
I felt my role was to instigate that
very discovery you mention into each
of them, mainly by having confidence
in them as they sought to "meet" themselves. Knowing that someone believes
and accepts helps them in their journey.
