Black Man

Missing image

Insurgence of Light energy
dug through deepest core of earth
scooping up handfuls of carbon dirt
likened unto black coal and indigo sky
with ebony sprinkled stars mixed
molding, shaping breath-baked sculpt
seared through life's vortex
                                 first black seed
                                 womb of humanity

Come hold me close

allow my gentleness to wrap securely about
your bruised and beaten back
to soothe your bereft soul
You stand straight , poised, regal, and proud
defeating superimposed odds

No weapon formed that would make good

Empires still bow
even through troubled dejection You rise
Your partner succumbs to your whims--Black Man

Author notes

PROMPT:

1. Black Woman, Lines 10-19

Naked woman, dark woman
Ripe fruit with firm flesh, dark raptures of black wine,
Mouth that gives music to my mouth
Savanna of clear horizons, savanna quivering to the fervent
caress
Of the East Wind, sculptured tom-tom, stretched drumskin
Moaning under the hands of the conqueror
Your deep contralto voice is the spiritual song of the
Beloved.

  • Absolutely magnificent, gal! I love your description of the creation of a fine, black man. And then your deep emotional connection to his plight and his strength and absolute resilience of spirit. Love the scriptural allusion that no weapon formed against me will prosper-perfectly fitting.

The sensuality here is perfectly swooning and totally drew me in. A marvelous piece on so many levels.

    All the best to ya!

  • Thanks for the tribute to the black man who for so long has seemed invisible to the forgotten light of life. This is an amazing write and you are truly talented...

oh that last line sets me dreaming...a panorama of ages here, and the rich and fulfilling words offer depth and find resonance in the world all around and over years of history; a culmination in the open hand and love of Femme Noir. Thank you for this fine entry into the contest and the best of luck to you in the judging...PK **

    Powerful expression

In the realm of the tripple darkness it is only expression that makes impression and causes movement on the face of the deep. This expression did and does just that. It is impacting to the deep thinker because of it's imagery and calls the shallow thinker to delve deeper into their souls for light and reason to come up off that surface and see clearly what and why no weapon forged against make good. Yo I was tripping I felt this and I want to thank you for sharing this is close to gospel this is close to living prophesy. Peace.

What a glorious way to envision the beginning of humankind ... and Africa was its mother. So much was given to...and has been taken from Afria over the centuries. And yet, those who still claim her greatness, transcending all the odds, still "stand straight , poised, regal, and proud". It is an amazing thing! And I for one am thankful for my ancestors' contributions to the world's civilization, and understand how important it is for me to continue to sow the seeds of knowledge and pride to the younger generations. Wonderful write poet! Fed my soul this morning♥ Best wishes in the contest!

So beautifully expressed as always. It is making me think today as I watch the upcoming elections in Zimbabwe that perhaps we sometimes listen to the hardened souls too often in this world instead of the heart of the people. Love, C
