I Will Take This LSD Pill Instead

Missing image
“I really want to see you Lord
But it takes so long my Lord
My Sweet Lord”

How long will it take
To see you my Lord?
Endless lifetimes
In a bottomless ocean?

“I really want to be with You
But it takes so long my Lord,
My Sweet Lord”

What is forever my Lord?
Are all the dreams and hopes
In the Universe too much to horde?
Is an eternity too long my Lord?

“All Things Must Pass”
One day I will be with
You my Lord, at last…

Until that Day I will sit here
Reflecting  in sadness and dread
That I am truly a “fish out of  water”
And so I will take this LSD pill instead.

Author notes

This is a little bit of a spoof on the Hippy way toward enlightenment.
True enlightenment takes hard work and discipline. To think that it can be found in taking a drug is a joke to me. That is why I am making fun of this here. I love George Harrison and he was very spiritual. I took phrases from his songs and used them in my poem as a reflective device. I tried to also be compassionate in how I presented the “Hippy” outlook.

I am not saying that religiously using drugs to open oneself to higher consciousness, much like the American Indians do with peyote, is wrong. To do this as the only way to increase ones awareness is irresponsible and causes one to get stuck at a certain level spiritually  and not move forward. True enlightenment is not to be found in a pill, and that is where I think many Hippies went wrong. They thought that it was a cheap, quick way to get to Heaven. There is no short cut to enlightenment, save by the grace and compassion of the Lord.

I like this. It does look at the hippies aspect of hare krishna and gives a small glimpse into a different view on spirituality.

    Well Done!

Way to go friend!!! There's no easy way to enlightenment. The Way to Him is narrow & straight! He wants us to persevere, overcome & grow. There's no for that! Eternity is a long time & while we're here we need to grow in grace & understanding & seek Him! Thanks 4 this.

    Okay.

Well the high is spiritual and one can do that without the drugs. But I think the sincere desire to see the Lord is here. I liked the music of the Beatles in many ways almost all of them are classics. LSD though won't give the kind of results that a person thinks it will, in fact it may do the opposite. Prayer works wonders.

That was one of my main points, if you read the author's notes. This is for a contest, and was written as a satire.

Yes, I know that prayer is powerful, and so is meditation and Yoga. My whole point in this satire, is that drugs are not the road to spirituality, enlightenment or God. It was written as a satire.

I made it clear in my Author's notes that I do not approve of the drug aspect of the Hippy Culture. If you look at the contest itself, you will understand more of this style of poem and the context it was written in.

Okay, your notes explain things better. Otherwise I would think the poem uncharastic of you. Not all hippies did drugs though, I am pretty sure.

You are right, not all Hippies took drugs. However it was widespread among them in the 60's and 70's. The "Hippy" culture to me was a slightly corrupted version of the original "Flower Child" Movement, which started before the Hippy culture and was based more on the Hare Krishna's. I should know, I was one of the original "Flower Children", although I have been accused of being a "Hippy". That doesn't bother me. I am proud of what that generation tried to accomplish in the world with civil rights, human rights and the environment. If they were taken more seriously, we wouldn't be having a lot of the problems we are having today. The down side of that time, was the drugs, which I DO NOT approve of, and never did, except for religious purposes under very rare circumstances.

To sum it up, the original "Flower Children" were on the more innocent path and the "Hippies" became a subculture, off branch of them, but that is what eventually stuck, and unfortunately gave the movement a bad name, which is unfair, because they did a lot to try to make the world a better place, and still do

Yes, it isn't me. At least not the lsd pill thing. If you read the contest rules, you will understand better. It was written for a contest, and how hippies looked at spirituality. It is not entirely my spirituality - especially not the taking of drugs. It was meant to be a satire.
