Not This Night

This rustic smell infiltrates my senses
Beads of light fall gently through white curtains
Enchanted, I sigh under this ancient spell

I take a deep breath, inhaling layers of dust
That dance whimsically in the thick air
Bringing about a fit of fair coughing

On the creaky old rocking chair I sit
Both our joints mingle into harmonious sounds
My old bones shifting in and out of their place

Relics of life surround me in this room
I have planned to take my treasure to my tomb
Softly, I begin to fade, and our creaking beat stops playing

Dreams of the next spring, sing-song birds
The summer’s wave of expected heat and humidity
Tumbling into freshly fallen leaves of autumn

I awake again in the dead of winter nights
The cold alive in my ever-aging bones
Softly my sigh waves across the still air

No, not this night.  But perhaps tomorrow.

Author notes

Hmm, I think there'll be a follow up or two to this poem because it didn't go the way I intended for it to go, but I didn't want it to not go this way after it went this way

Purple!

  • Wow i like this poem

it reminds me of and seems to tlak about someone old in the bones yet young in the heart and wishing for love to have a rasont to continue and maybe its not what you aimed at but i like the poem its interesting and i like th three lines before the last line i don't know why but they hit as the most powerful lines in this
  • Loved it. I love your use of adjectives in all your poems.

Very nice images in this (well not "nice" as in they're not optimistic but interesting). A very mature write- talking about dying at such a young age). I'd like to see the follow-ups

  • hey wow thats is great!
