Corduroy

Missing image
Poor Corduroy, the bear, all scruffy but cute
I felt so sad for him alone in that shop,
when I first heard that story I just wanted to cry
to give him a home and his loneliness stop.

Missing a button on his trousers all worn
there was one litle girl to whom he was a treasure,
but her mother wouldn't let her buy poor Corduroy
yet I knew as I read he would give her much pleasure.

Sweet Corduroy roamed the shop for a button
all night he searched with little success,
thinking that no one would want him as theirs
he really liked that little girl and wanted to impress.

Happiness to all the very next day
the girl reappeared with her moneybox held tight,
as the bear stood tall looking as new as he could
then finding his way into loving arms that were right.

I once had a bear much like little Corduroy
passed down through generations his stuffing fell out,
many times had he been stitched back together
like that girl who gave Corduroy a new button so he'd not do without.
