Know your life

From time beyond measure
Man had the fundamental question
What is key of life?
This question is there even now
And will be there in future also
So long human being is there.
The real nature of man is infinity.
But taking birth we limit ourselves
In a state called ignorance.
It is a condition when we forget
The actual Self present is us.
As soon as this bondage comes
Man starts struggling to get free.
Life is the name of that struggle.
From one life to another
Every creature or man
Tries to get freedom.
To get salvation, four major routes
Have been discovered.
These are by universal selfless love,
Working without asking any fruit,
Philosophy and Yoga to control body and mind.
All these are discovered by great
Sages, mostly in India.
The essence of self relisation lies on
How properly one follows these routes or
Others methods derived from them.

    well written, very philosophical

  • I enjoyed reading your poem. We agree in philosophy. I see the mind as the cause and our actions as the effects. I believe that our forgiving others and ourselves is the greatest thing we can do to heal the mind of hateful thoughts. Then we will find peace.

"Man starts struggling to get free.
Life is the name of that struggle." <<--So true. This really hit home for me. I'm not sure why, but it really did...great!

Thank you for entering and good luck in the contest!

(PS Should line 3 "What is key of life?" be "What is the key of life?" ?? Just wondering.)

strangely enough this diversity different paths, different religions sadly pulls us apart when we are all searching to find the same thing, you would think this would bring us together, but maybe it is the thinking that pulls us apart.
    we do struggle but why?
I love the openness and acceptance of your write, to know that we are the same not different.
    very lovely
    well done
    Thank you for your entry
    God bless...

mmm I agree! I do find that the stones that keep our routes decorated are all there for a reason and the key you are referring to usually lies beneath those stones!

    I loved this!

Ok, I admire the theme here and especially the lines penned to provoke thoughts for the reader, you know? I can agree at some points and others, I have some second thoughts about them but mostly not sure if I support it so yes, you did provoke thoughts to one of your readers
I also like the persona's thoughts written down in this piece like it was a journal, a not colloquial speech if you will and it was definitely written poetically . . .
. . . problem is, I find the presentation of the poem dull for my liking unless it is a shape poetry that I can't recognize then forgive me about that; the third to the last line should be realization, by the way ^^
All in all, great job on this piece- has that potential for the persona to be asked "a penny for your thoughts" if this were thoughts by the persona at all, indeed ~

An interesting take on the meaning of life (or perhaps the demise of a race). I like how you have tried to offer some direction (for the lost) and I wish you the best of luck in the contest

I LOVE YOUR WRITES SUCH TRUTH IN EVERY WORD, AND QUITE A JOURNEY  i am sure if humanity would embrace instead of struggle to accept instead of reacting. growth would come much sooner. I sometimes pray for humanity to wake up and let the light in. true poet you are and a well needed addition to humanity. God bless

thank you so much for this insightful entry …
I recognize the approach of Indian spirituality in your words
and you have perfectly completed the contest-subject by the
two other paths besides bhakti yoga (selfless love, devotion) and
jnana yoga (knowledge, wisdom) … karma yoga is certainly a
valuable path to self-realization, according to the rishis … for acting selflessly already proves of a detachment from the ego-mind … raja yoga the forth path in order to control the mind and transcend it …

there is also another approach : the “direct” path – or better pathless path, where one realizes that “we are already THAT” – the non-dual approach of Advaita Vedanta …

may every human being be guided on the path that suits his/her tendencies and abilities … om shanti shanti shanti
