Grief Without Cause

He held her, with the gentle arms of grief
The way you would hold an ill child, close to your chest
Caressing her skin with the most tender touch
He wanted her to love him, to capture her heart

The still air in the room, was the force that kept him grounded
A harsh reminder, he was the only strength she had
He stared into the depths of her eyes, searching for an answer
Craving her secrets, longing for his redemption

A year worth of bad deeds, hatred spewed from his lips across her face
Resided in the air between them, separating their once joined souls
A lifetime of love destroyed in the passing of four seasons
Utopia ripped asunder and cast into the vortex of his lies

His dream of healing the wounds he'd inflicted, faded
As he watched the one woman he'd ever loved, slip away from life
A tear welled in his eye, slid down his cheek, he cried for them both
Their world stopped turning, frozen in that very moment

Their
Hearts
Stopped
Beating
