A Faerie Tear

A placid girl
A strange, dark chamber
Standing at the window
Peering out
Upon the snow

The snow...
Turned red by blood
Dragon blood
The boldest
The wisest

Gone...
The blood spilled here
Will stain forever
Always a reminder
of what went wrong

A valiant night
A dragon rider
Clashing, fighting
In playful combat
Never knowing
What would happen there

A practice jab
A rearing dragon
Driven in her breast
Staining the snow
With blood...

An inhuman cry
Rang out that night
Echoing, sounding
Around the hills
Forever more

And the girl
That faerie girl
Had the power
To make all right
Once more

And yet...
She couldn't
She promised
That she wouldn't
Use magic, anymore

For that human
That stupid human
Whom she thought
Was her true love

Gave up her life
Gave up her powers
For a selfish
Evil man

The last dragon
The only dragon
Gone...

A tear
A single tear
A droplet of dew
Perfection,
A faerie tear

Fell that fateful day

Author notes

I stole the dragon rider, last dragon thing from Eragon

Enjoyed the alliteration in these lines, the flow and the story you tell here. Not sure all the lines need to start with capital letters, but then that is just my preference.

Splendid poem, I adore dragons, and when I read "dragon rider" I immediately understood your source of inspiration. The Inheritance Series is amazing, I can't wait for the third book. But back to your poem. Yours is such a marvel of a story, it is sad but magically fulfilling at the same time. I love the simplicity and yet how you managed to weave a complex tale, with so few words. But words are supposed to say a lot, and yours certainly express years and years of evolution for magical creatures, and the most beautiful such creatures. I love dragons and faeries...Awesome poem, and I wish you great luck in the contest!

    Ouch! I like this

except for when a dragon dies. (I like dragons, you know). It's a fairy tale bemoaning the death of the last dragon with a fairy and a knight. It makes me happy. Two magickal thumbs up for making me smile this morning. I wish you well in the contest.
