Poetic Justice

To Mark Rickerby, AP poet:

You write of things that bother
me about the sport of fishing,
yet I love to eat them, although
market prices leave me wishing...

I developed a pang of conscience
although fish is cold-blooded fare,
when an old gent called a whole school
of them by just whistling in the air.

They trusted him with every scale and fin,
ate treats right from his hand,
as happy as any other beloved pet,
except they lived in a watery band.

There is an ironic justice,
I suppose, in those seafood dishes,
for old fishermen buried at sea
ultimately feed the fishes!

I am quite new here and came to this site via Mark, he recommended your poetry to me and I plan on reading it through a few at a time. So it's fitting I read this one first!! Very clever.

I wrote to Mark an hour ago, that I love his sense of humour, and here I'm reading you saying the same :)
It's remarkable how he can add humour to almost any kind of subject.

You my friend, have a funny bone too :)

Your poem is so amusing, made me chuckle here.

Such a pleasant morning read, thanks*hug*

    How true

Well, those of us landlubbers buried in the ground feed the worms and then feed the fishies. Ha ha.

    Yep, we're blood thirsty critters.

Did he really call a school of fish by whistling? How cool. Ok, I love Haddock but I guess I can't eat it now...too much Mercury in fish anyway.

I'll have to go read the fish tale now...and then maybe rent, "A River Runs Through It."

I have wanted to see that movie, too...and yes, he really did call the fish by whistling. I saw it on a PBS documentary. I hate it that we have polluted our streams, rivers, and even the ocean so much. ~ Karen

Excellent movie and of course it has a young Brad Pitt...every time I even type his name women go, "Ohhhh!"

Yes it's very sad, but that is progress right?...(yes that's meant to be ironic.)
