floorboards went creak with the newness of my tread
all was bright and attentive
faces were attuned to the novelty, and at times
the whole town flashed its dancing skirts
i was the new girl in town
mysterious in dreads
baby strapped to my bosom
and long skirts with bare feet dusky with road dust
i was their latest enigma
promising adventure.
