Unexpected Path

Trudging up a snowy path
This woman has been wandering for hours
Lost in terrible blizzard
Being on a mountain it did not shield her
Ice and snow pelted her from all sides
And the higher on the mountain
Snow was deeper and deeper
Soon the snow was to much for the woman
Desperate for shelter she walks faster

Secluded far into the mountain's path

A forlorn looking cabin sits deep in the snow

Shivering and exposed to the freezing temperatures

Slowly she heads towards it

No lights or smoke was coming from the house

But yet she fumbled with the door

Dust greeted the young woman

As she opened the heavy door

It was familiar scene in a very sad way

Everything in the house was set for a candle light dinner

Reminding her of what she ran away from

The table was set with delicate placings and silverware

Walking up to the table she notices something

Upon the table was a lonely glass of white wine

Wondering what happened at this place

As she looks around she sees a picture on the wall

Tears fall from her blue eyes

In the picture was a younger, happier version of herself and a young man

Her hair was in an elegant up-do

The young man was styling a white tuxedo

And she was in a stunning white gown

Finally she knows were she is

This was where he was going to bring her

After they were back from their honeymoon

It was over and she was back

Although her lover never made it back

A truck came out of nowhere

While they were walking across the street in England

Pushing her out of the way

He took the full hit of the semi truck

Then rescue crew told her

He did not suffer but died upon impact

So she ran away from her fears and sadness

To the one place she can escape

Her Rocky Mountains

Continuing to look at the picture

She hoped it would spring to life

But she sat on the floor and cried

Never had she thought she would have

Seen a picture of him again

Tears where on her face

But she continued down her unexpected path

This is very lovely and emotional, though it is sort of confusing in places. I did, however, imagine the mountains, the snow, and this poor girl's frozen face, slick with sheets of icy tears so very vividly. We always long for escape, but how does one run from him or herself? Well done, and good luck to you in the contest!

    Hoodwinked!

Intriguing and poignant story, with description which pulls the reader into the scene, especially at the cabin.

This is a wonderfully sad story. It has much depth in it. I am sorry her husband could no longer be with her in the world of man.
