Ode to a Black beauty: In which a poet gives the Lady her props, & renders meagre praise in Love

This poem was for so very long,

under construction.

Our world has been for much loner,

under destruction.

My living hope is that there are good folk

who will save the sphere with us in it.

And woman will take a key role.

I know

what my mama told me

to be true.

The Black Madonna

is gonna wanna

intercede

for us

y'all.

Naked Naquida, dark sister love!

Ripe you with flesh like what heaven must feel,

chiaroscuro raptures of palm and arm,

Your kiss gave gab to my tongue.

Savannah of my best memories & most hopeful dreams,

savannah on fire from my ardent caress.

Of the East Wind, your proud world of being

was never tamed by my hands of the conqueror

Even now the memory of your mahogany tones,

against what high tones of birds you contrast,

lights my heart and stirs my desire.

Author notes

Please reserve, while I makes me another pbj sammidj. You want some?

Am meditating on beautiful African women. You know there has to be a God if there are such lovely flowers of human beings. Thank God I'm alive to know at least some of these lovely women.

Here is my choice of prompt:

translated from Femme Noir

1. Black Woman, Lines 10-19
Naked woman, dark woman
Ripe fruit with firm flesh, dark raptures of black wine,
Mouth that gives music to my mouth
Savanna of clear horizons, savanna quivering to the fervent
caress
Of the East Wind, sculptured tom-tom, stretched drumskin
Moaning under the hands of the conqueror
Your deep contralto voice is the spiritual song of the
Beloved.

I really like your poem and how Senghor's Black Woman inspired you. This is also what I saw there when I read Black Woman for the second time. Not really love (or the only love) to a woman, but the author love to his country. The scent of that African land, the sights, the beauty and the pain.
You have showed it here so very well.
I read all the entries, yours is definitely my favourite.

Humor is welcomed because there is joy there aand this poem finds a mix of humor and adoration, an unique style and a very honest and open voice, very well done. Thank you for this fine entry in the contest and best of luck in the judging...PK
