Selena

Selena

For each night’s revelation here I stand

transfixed, to view the rising of the moon;

I take my aged wooden flute in hand

and play a lifting, lilting, falling tune.

I sound my serenade by softest breath,

in semi-silence, half-afraid to break

by step, by slightest movement, into death

the perfect mirror-image in the lake.

Selena is the secret name I give

myself at this deep, magick time of night;

in castle-clouds and hues of grey I live,

and sigh alone in silver, shifting light…

   When sunlight comes, and reds and ochres whirl,

   I am a very different kind of girl.

    Your sonnets are so very beautiful and this is no exception. I love the variation you use in the last line of the couplet as you drop two syllables and still achieve a perfect rhyme and meter.

    Love,
    Amera

        humm... you're right. I was off I think because of the length of the line.

    One line blending perfectly with the next and the ending... was just as exquisitely penned. I love this form and it works so well here. Thank you for sharing this with me and best wishes. Keep that pen handy and ever ready for use dear poet.

    Superb sonnet.

    Such soft and sensuous sonnet-song you sing
    You woo us all into your tender trap
    Beguiling beauty to this form you bring
    Then snare us slowly with the sweetest snap

    I've mourned the magic of your missing muse
    Though sonnets from some others I have read
    To transfer my love to these I must refuse
    Although toward My Queen I'm strongly lead

    Pen on the greatest poet that I know
    And keep your humble accolyte in joy
    For in my mind you've many seeds to sow
    Although I'm sorry I am just a boy

    I love to read each poem that you write
    And with a sonnet I soar out of sight
