Poem One

I will be that spark
That overwhelming spark
That illumines the world
--Have you not seen my glow,
My golden luster in the night?
It spread like a conflagration
Of dreams through the mind
Of a unified Earth,
Through the minds
Of six billion sleepers
            comatose.
--But then have you heard my cry
It played like music in an
            Indian bazaar,
Earthbound, yet still divine,
For one can be divine on Earth.
That is the secret the
      sages always kept
That is the truth Zarathustra
            spoke
--But truly, have you not heard
            my song?
Perhaps you confused it with
the nightingale's moans
Perhaps you thought you
heard only the children
once more at their games--
But those bright sounds
full of life were my notes
            and tunes,
For only last eve I
became life anthropomorphized,
Embodied, and pushed into the world.
Surely you heard my words--
My voice could not be mistaken
for anything else--
It was the soft internal
whisper that visited your heart
late last night and told
you to sleep, and not worry
about the small spider resting
motionlessly on the antique
book laid casually on the dresser
next to your bed.
--And I see you have
not quite given up
those Polish poets whose
names you never learned
            to pronounce.
--What joy it was to
hear you read with such
passion "A Word to Orphists"
by Wierzynski.
--But you will not remember
how to discern my form
amidst the million and one
indiscernible things
that fill your senses daily.
--Only remember that I am
all of them and nothing less
I am your very soul
But the hour is late
And you must sleep.

Author notes

After spending a few hours today reading some wonderful poems by Frank O'Hara, his style, I assume, rubbed off on me and, after listening to some Satyajit Ray, I think the combination inspired me to spontaneously compose this piece, which I like, although I will admit it is a bit strange.

Please tell me what you think

It is a wise and worthy thing, to read others' works and gain inspiration for our own. I'd say you spend your time in an intelligent and humble endeavor to evolve your own soul, thereby helping the rest of us to attain a higher realm. Well done, my Friend.

    Outstanding

I've not read Frank O'Hara or heard Satyajit Ray however I thought this had an enchanting freshness about it - a poem that seemed very spiritual and uplifting. You have so much ability to write. This is a soulful poem that dares to try something new. I thought it was brilliant.
