They caught me in the very act
of breaking my marriage vows.
They saw me coupling with sin,
I feel their condemnation now.
They dragged me, naked, before the court,
covered with blood and dust.
They called me what I was: a whore
deserving of death for faithless lust.
They sentenced me as the law required;
I shuddered at the lifted stones.
They shouted that redemption
could come through punishment alone.
Silence fell as I cowered there,
then I heard a familiar tone.
"Let him whose heart is free from sin
be the first to cast his stone."
I waited, filled with holy fear,
for I knew this Man by name.
Without a doubt, He could condemn me.
Was this the reason why he came?
He knelt, wrote something in the sand.
I dared not make a sound.
Then, one by one, they turned away,
every rock fell to the ground.
Trembling, I met his ancient eyes.
What I saw there left me stunned.
He knew me...and He loved me
in spite of everything I'd done!
He lifted me to my bleeding feet,
saying, "Go, and sin no more."
That's why, as I look upon His cross,
I can say it's me He's dying for.

This poem is very good and It's one of my favorite Bible stories about being forgiven instead of condemned for sin.

oh I love this story from the bible and you've interpreted it with a very powerful and beautiful piece...thank you for sharing this awesome write....
-
The one who says he is without sin is a liar - but we have an advocate. I like the juxtaposition of these two stories, it is an excellent perspective.

Good luck!

A wonderful tale of Easter and its true meaning to Christians.
One tiny typo:
they saw me coupling with sin," Capitalize T on There at the beginning of this sentence.
Thank you for your entry. Best of luck in the judging. ~Pamela

This is a superb telling of the story in John 8 of the Adulterous Woman. I often read this story with amazement because Jesus could have condemned her, but instead, he forgave her and gave her a second chance. I've always wondered what she did with it. What a touching story of love, compassion, kindness and grace. It's too bad so many people never see this kind of Savior when they look at Christianity. Nicely written! One of my favorites.

A Beautiful portrayal of the Bible Story--Very well written and versed!
Well done and best of luck in the contests!!

Beautiful
This is a wonderful piece. I love the way you told this story, a story that is older than any of us, than most of our family lineages.. Beautiful and inspirational. Even for people who are not Christians, this would be a good moral story. Good structure and imagery here also. I could almost see the scene in vivid color. Very well done and keep writing, the world needs as much inspiration as it can get these days.

Well, personally, I'm not a Christian and I don't believe in the Christian God, but I love this poem anyway. The rhyme was awesome. Best of luck!

It matters not what you have done, it is only in the heart of HIM through love are we already forgiven. Blessings to you for this write..keep that pen going.

-
Very nice and touching specially the end. Surely, forgiveness is always there, we can all be forgiving if we only looked deeper to those who are greater than us and still forgive our unforgiveable sins.
Great writing.
