Tropical Storm

Night is warm and clouds are low
as breeze picks up, begins to blow,
clothes are sticking to my skin
and all the lights flicker within.

Suddenly the thunder beats
as rain pours down in metal sheets,
lightning flashes overhead
it's clearly daylight up ahead.

Like violent waves upon the shore
this storm beats hard against my door,
as lights extinguish darkness reigns
rain still lashes window panes.

Then all at once storm dies away
I breathe a sigh and quietly pray,
no damage done, lights flicker back
as night continues on it's track.

But still the air is hot and close
tonight will find it hard to doze,
but slowly air begins to clear
as nature settles without fear.
