To Night Hope...What Sisters Know

I, too, immerse myself
in the waves of your thought

~ for they are yours,
whether inspired by Neruda,
or another ~

and find myself going under
in a brush of eternity
with an old soul
who walks comfortably the waters
of the written word

the mystery is the well
upon which you draw and pen
molten visions

"those flames flickering
upon the periphery
of silence"

outside your window
I watch heavenly songs
and earthly passions swirl, inky

take on colors of oceans, sky
of birds banking the sun

the pink of fingertips

quilling a purple heart
spilling upon the page

next to them crystal orbs
still liquid form
crying with no sound

yet I can't tell if they
are yours or mine
for I breathe
their reflections

glean rubies and blueberries
from my dusty heart
as my mouth opens

silently against the glass

Author notes

"those flames flickering
upon the periphery
of silence"

This quote is taken from Night Hope's poem, Dancing With Neruda, with her permission.

Her writing wraps itself around my heart everytime I read. So this is with love to you, Wanda.

You did a worthy work for Wanda. Makes mine look like a childish imitation of praise. Excellent.

awww! I'm glad you liked it. I take it you read her poetry, too. She always touches me with her writing, as she does so many on site.

What a lovely tribute, beautiful for everyone to read. I just wrote a tribute to my best friend, he loved it, but I'm sure anyone who reads it can relate to it when they think of a dear friend

    C'est magnifique ...

and I doubt I could say anything more relevant in English. This is one of those rare poems that makes it worthwhile to spend so much time here.

Absolutely stunning. (And yes, Wanda is a great lady.)

This one came from within. And I couldn't say it better...she is a great lady. She draws on the mists and leaves such sunshine, touches tears and laughter with her own, and paints her name upon my thought quite frequently, with such spunk, vivacity, and love. I think the colloquial term is 'heart'.

Ok, I admit it, I passed over this one originally, because of the title, not who it was for, Night Hope is a fine lady, I just mean, those tributes are sort of pointless to me, I know, I'm mean, but from a readers stand point, they're not poetic, just a slap on the back. Yes, mean again.

But, I was wrong at least this time. This is beautiful, and the subject isn't even important, what's beautiful is the tone, but more important, word choice. I've been disillusioned with poetry for a while now...the artifice of it, and frankly the arrogance of those who think they can write it, and more so with what I find are their faulty beliefs of what is art. Ok, that is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo to everyone but me...but the point I want to make is, this poem works, the words work, meaning works, the symmetry works, lets me just explain (I'll be brief)

    Example:

    I watch heavenly songs
    and earthly passions swirl, inky

There's imagery but it's logical, based upon what we know and understand, yet elevated above the common, now a passage like:

    scared mouths
    that see the distance

yeah I made that up, but you see, it's illogical and of no plane we can comprehend...you'd be surprised at the number of so-called (and often self-proclaimed) good poets here who just pepper their poems will such pathetic (and faulty) fallacies.

I'm just bubbin' here, ignore me. Its been on my mind lately and the poems and stories I write (and hide) on the subject don't seem to help me at all.

      Sadly ...

you are correct. So much of what I see here lately makes little or not sense.

You are also correct about this poem, which is exquisite.

Lynda. I hadn't intended to enter it at all, but when that swell of awe rises and paints my heart upon the page with a power of it's own, I put the thoughts down. I did post at first without a thought to the contest and had to undo it when I realized the contest was still open.

So often Wanda's poems leave me searching for words worthy of her craft. But when it comes to her heart, the only one that I need is the one we all have defined in myriad ways: Love.

The contest has so many terrific entries. Well done! ~ Karen

This is beautiful, Karen - so soft and gentle your words seem to float and drift upon this page....and the soft pastel background made me think of clouds at sunset, the soft pinks of dawn.

Your poem sings of Wanda's talent, of her heart and soul's beauty in such a beautiful voice. What a beautifully soft penning this is... like a whisper pressed against the ear.
