Child abuse is an action, or lack thereof an action, that harms a child or somehow puts them at risk. The abuse can be either sexual, physical, or emotional. Neglect is also a form of abuse which involves ommitting a basic need from a child's life. Parents who abuse their children often suffer from a severe mental disorder, or have a problem with substance abuse.
Children from all different backgrounds and ages can fall victim to child abuse. Typically, children ranging in age
from mere infancy to three years of age are the most vunerable to becoming victims of abuse and neglect a survey conducted by the
Children's Bureau in 2004 found. These children are the most vunerable because of their small size,dependency on
an adult, and their inability to defend themselves. Harmful behavior toward someone of such a young age has a tendency to result
in death. An estimated 1,500 children die each year from child abuse and the numbers are not decreasing. In fact, the average
