Way with words

I was at a large family gathering recently, watching a televised sporting event with my teen-aged nephew. This young man, who is mentally challenged but quite inquisitive, was asking about some of the weeks top news stories:
“ Hey Uncle, did you hear about that guy who lost his job?”
“Lots of people have lost their jobs” I replied.
“ Yeah, but he lost his for dating a tall girl.”
It took me a moment, but I answered
“ Did he work for the US Government?”
My nephew answered “ Yes. But he got fired for paying this tall girl $80, or something like that. He was married, too, but his wife didn’t seem too upset about the tall girl, cause she was still on TV with him.”
Once I substituted Call for Tall I could no longer add to the conversation in any meaningful way, rolling on the floor as I was.
All kids soak in the crazy stuff that goes for important news in our culture, no matter how tasteless , ugly or just plain insane.
Good to remember.

He he that's cute and such a true statement to make about the quality of news these days. I'm studying journalism and actual news is becoming less and less and we seem to be moving much more towards infotainment

    Not my taste

The subject matter is quite enjoyable, though I have to say that I would have enjoyed it more were it in less of a story form. Still, good read.
