I Wonder.

I wonder if Lot's wife ever thought
about what she had to see?
Turned into a pillar of salt for all eternity.

Did she in despair wish she had never turned her head.
And could she whisper through tears
that never melted brine?

Is that evil still behind her?
As her soul longs to be free,
and once again to join her humanity.

Author notes

I often think of Lot's wife who turned to see what was happening in Sodom and Gomorrah which was the reason why she turned into a pillar salt. I see more than one image but the ideas came into my head as I saw the picture.

    Love this!!!

    Thoughtful, sad & longing...
And if Lot's wife was sad, then Job's wife must have been devasted...
I love that you can say so much in so few words...
Another great write you have here...
    Well done!!!

    Let's see...

If we can tighten this up a tad:

    Wonder if Lot's wife thought
'bout what she longed to see?
Turned into a pillar of salt for eternity.
Did she in despair wish she'd never turned her head?
    Could she whisper through tears
    that never melted brine?
If she hadn't turned her head
    She'd not be dead!

When writing about Biblical themes I believe it's good to stick with the flow of Scripture. Remember that as Lot's wife turned to look Sodom & Gomorrah were being Destroyed. Lot's wife died. When we're dead we have no consciousness. Her soul can't long to be free. We are souls. When we're dead we are in soul sleep. In the resurrection when she learns the Truth she'll have an opportunity to make a decision to follow the Truth she learns! That's my understanding. PS: I keep trying to give you three claps & they're not coming up! Go figure!

Good job on the prompt! All the best in the contest...

    Well done!

Yours is the second entry I've read in this contest. When I first saw the prompt Lots wife is exactly what came to mind. Good job & apt words to fit the piece. The reason [from my understanding as a Bible Scholar {student}] that Lot's wife was turned to salt was because she was not to have a longing for the life she was leaving. She apparently liked aspects of her life in Sodom that she was not willing to leave behind & that's why she looked back even though told not to do so! Her decision was recorded for us to realize that once we walk away from what's destructive in our life we shouldn't look back, but put it completely in the past! I'm still working on that one. I believe that even Lot's wife who disobeyed & received her punishment for that will get a chance to learn the Truth & have an opportunity for Eternal Life! What a Savior we have! HalleluYah. :-)

The rhyme structure seems a bit off but I love the idea. I guess it was morbid curiosity that made her turn her head. Lot's wife was a "rubbernecker", like modern commuters who can't help looking at highway accidents. Interesting perspective.
