Can You

Can you stand when your alone
When the world is burning,
a deep abiding pain
lingering, in the air.
Can you handle the pain
when all others are lost,
unimaginable pain.

Blood is a bitter taste,
sweet but sour,
keeping us alive
while it kills us,
seeping out.
Can you stand it,
can you stand us.
You fight while we are free,
your blood seeping out.

Why do you fight,

to save us

or do you fight to feel the metallic taste

of blood on your lips.

The red luster bitter-sweet,
a taste of power

overcoming you.

Can you kill them or will you kill us.

Can you overcome the monster,

trying to get out.

Can you stop it without stopping us.

The obsession of power,

so strong

can you bear it.

Can you stand while all others are falling,

a healing hand in the wake of light

speaking of your disasters.

Speaking of the disaster you made, of us.

Author notes

A deep thought of understanding the being of power, and the disasters you will make.

Morbid, dark, leaning towards emo- Not really something I like to critique. The fact that you used "pain" 3 or more times in the first few lines of the poem made me not even want to consider this for my contest.

Not only is that word overused and pathetic, but there are so many better, non-cliche, ways to point at pain.

    Thanks, for trying
