I’ve been sitting here for ages
and I haven’t got an inkling
what accolades to write
about this dear old Winkling.
He is helpful, he is kind
and sometimes can be witty,
bringing smiles to solemn faces
with a little diverse ditty.
I have known him take a slur
or be hammered with critique,
but then rides above reproach
when he turns the other cheek.
He deserves this blaze of glory
for his fortitude and strength,
for his care and understanding,
I could write this way at length.
Suffice to thank this gentleman
whose purpose never quits,
and say, dear friend, with gratitude
Ron, you’re loved to bits!

Very true.
I like the words you have chosen to laud Ron, "little diverse ditty" and "purpose never quits". The meter and rhyme are bouncy, but you have given a serious and happy tribute in the best way.
Congratulations!

Dear Val,
Fair dinkum! What a write!
It is most often written as an interjection. The phrase is an ASSERTION of truth.
What you have written is honest and beautiful concerning my character, Val.
It is a real honor to me. Truly it is! Yeah, fair dinkum!
Lovely stanzas of tetrameters rhyming abcb pattern. I like the poem very much.
Thank you.

I apologise if my poem suggests that Ron is a personal friend of mine, I am not even Australian, lol. However during my time as part of the Winkling family and after, Ron as been so kind and helpful and always encouraging, for that he does have a special place in my heart, he is a lovely man. Val.

Dear Val
You are welcome back any time. Just let me know. And we can get to know each other better, as time allows for us both.

Incidently ...
not being Australian, I have no idea what "Fair Dinkum" means. Perhaps you'd like to explain to those of us who are not Australian? -
-
I can't see anything ...
that you should be apologizing for. I was just curious about your title. -
I think it means something like "wassup"

I am impressed ...
and think that Ron might be impressed as well. This is a great poem for a purpose of this sort.
Thanks for entering.
