I keep it together
every moment spent breathing
with you
with them
putting back pieces
that life can undo;
the family vase crashing to hard wood floors
spilling memories and times to come
right across unity.
I've cleaned up the mess
and the glue of my stability
remains strong enough to bond
so we smile
in black ribbons
and dark coats that hold in warmth
knowing it's me
who'll have to stay alive
if only to mend
everyone else...

This is very beautiful and deep, in a slightly haunting way. I really enjoyed it - you have an excellent grasp of flow and word choice!
My favorite stanza was:
so we smile
in black ribbons
and dark coats that hold in warmth
The imagery there just took my breath away. This is a phenomenal write - congrats on the silver! You definitely deserve it!

You really can pen anything good. I have felt this way many a time. I like the take that Poetic Whisperer had...
-
that life can undo;
My favorite line--it really resonates...because life can take you off guard all the time, leaving the person/people to "pick the pieces up".
Good luck in the contest. 8)

I keep reading you
in the hopes to steal some of your ability. It's not working and you are still really, really good. May be I'll just stay a fan for a while. Good piece, may you do well in the contest.

What an excellent take on the prompt. I came up with a blank on this one, but obviously you didn't.

Exceptional.

Somtimes we have to be the strong ones, the one that holds the rest together and bond our own hurts as best we can't without letting ourselves break.
Fabulous write!

Aw, this is fabulous! The strength of the female in a relationship is often overlooked and sadly so because she has such a depth of emotion and power to offer. Loved this dear, and best of luck in the contest.
Love and peace,
mj.
