Cause It's a Long Drive Home

Cause it’s a long drive home,
Down these empty dim moonlit backroads,
Cause it’s a long drive home,
Will I ever get there I don’t know.
What does my heart have to say about all this?
It doesn’t know,
What if this turns out a great heartbreak?
You’ll never know,
Do I miss her, should I try to fake?
I don’t think so.
But these are answers that I need to hear.
Can't let it go,
I pull into my drive,
I wonder where it went wrong,
Calling home to check in on my poor baby girl,
A girl who’s much more strong,
Cause when we started out,
I didn’t know what life and love was all about,
But now in a bed of flowers is where she lays,
I know how to love because of you,
I know how to live because of you,
It was a long drive home,
Trying to rid my mind of all these ghosts,
It was a long drive home,
With the smell of you still lingering on our favorite toys,
It was a long drive home,
What I want now is to be alone,
It was a long drive home,
Down those empty dim moonlit backroads,
Long drive home.
My sane mind is running thin,
oh how I will forever miss you,
I will miss you, Dixie Lynn.

Author notes

This poem is about not knowing life's meaning and why other's lives leave you when you need them the most. Sometimes this makes your life seem useless. I don't know the meaning of life, but I live it and miss those who lost it.

This one is for my dog, Dixie, who I truely miss.

Reminds me how much I miss Martha, the cat I had when I was a kid. She lived a very long time, and I was in college when she died. This was a beautiful poem.

    Grammar nit:

    Should be lies, not lays.
