Shame. Regret. Despair.
Darkness overwhelms me
Even as light reveals
My sin.
I feel the fingers of Death
Cold, corrosive, clutching
...This is what I deserve
But wait- look! Stop.
To my knees I drop
It is Him.
Oh, the stories I have heard!
The Messiah, some say-
But it is too late for me.
The sand that He stoops to draw in
Has slipped through the hourglass
I watch my life slip away
Questions burn in my heart and my head,
Anticipation of death
A thief of answers...
“Where are they?”
My accusers,
Gone!
My freedom, like waves
Upon
The sea
I am free.
Still, my eyes watch the ground
They have seen too much evil
To glimpse His face
No- somehow I cannot look down
Love encircles me
I don’t understand
But He draws me in
Looking up,
Forgiveness found
In His eyes
His words few, but
In His eyes
Shines wisdom from before the creation of the world.
In His eyes
Peace.
Joy.
Light,
Too bright,
To be shrouded in death.
A new life
Hope
In His eyes.
Darkness overwhelms me
Even as light reveals
My sin.
I feel the fingers of Death
Cold, corrosive, clutching
...This is what I deserve
But wait- look! Stop.
To my knees I drop
It is Him.
Oh, the stories I have heard!

This is a truely beautiful write
What a lovely write, this poem draws out that forgiveness of sins is attainable for people who are truely sorry for wrong things they may have done in their lives.
If they are sorry and repentant for the wrong things they have done, then Jesus shows here that forgiveness is acceptable if the wrong ways are left behind them and practiced no more.
I like where you started this poem from, as if it was you experiencing the feelings of the woman of disrepute. In the poem you portrayed the womans regret for her sins shame, regret, despair, darkness overwhelms me. She is truely overwhelmed by her sins and sees no way out.
And there are many haughty ones there ready to judge her without mercy regardless of her repentant heart condition, but Jesus shows mercy for she is full of remorse.
If we want to be forgiven for our sins, then we must be repentant and forgive those who sin against us if they are repentant. Through out this poem I got the feel of it because you expressed the feel of the situation excellently.
Thank you for sharing this lovely written poem, and showing the merciful way Jesus was, is, and continues to be towards repentant sinners.

Very powerfully personal view of what it means to be forgiven from sin, as seen through the eyes of this woman. Yet we can all relate to these feelings in relation to whatever sin has dragged us down.

Thank you for writing something that wasn't exactly expected. I hadn't even thought of a religious idea for this. The last three lines are probably my favorite. I like the powerful ending. You captured the story well. Thank you for entering. Good luck.

That's so beautiful. I love your poem and the Bible passage you tied it to. Thank you!
