Dark Easter Morn...**

Missing image

Dark Easter morn, light crystal frost
Square stones of white meet on green grass
Their patterns sharp as rows are crossed
My eyes sting closed, when seen in mass

I know God’s here much of his time
On special days with skies chilled clear
In this sad place, where young enshrine
So many souls, still wander here

Too young that day they lost their lives
So hard for those when left behind
An early loss for their young wives
And parents morn as days remind

They fought and died to set wrongs right
These men now gone, most just a kid
Pay homage here, in prayers recite
It matters not what elders did

I cannot stay, my grief too much
These friends I knew, some never met
I place my hand on stones to touch
Our duty plain, to honor debt

    very good poem

a very skilled and well written poem no one can read it without feeling sympathy and regret for the dead
and the poor relatives left behind "They fought and
Died to set wrongs right" as a participant (5 years)
in the 2nd world war I wondered what wrongs you put
right in the two you took part in. George
    Best Wishes Keep Writing

"My eyes sting closed, when seen in mass" I winced reading this line for its truth.
"And parents mourn as days remind" - and this line, is one I hope I will never experience.

There is a richness in this outline of duty and loyalty and yet loss to this effect is no less difficult for those left behind.

This is beautifully executed and well done. So very pleased to see a wonderful Silver trophy on this gem.

Excellent work as always my friend. ~Pamela

My heart swells with reading this poem- my Papa was a veteran, and always had such reverence for our "Nation's Fallen Heroes". I can only think of how he would respond to such a beautifully written poem in honor of such men.

Cold image, the "light crystal frost."
cold remembrances, but then warmed by your heart.

    Superb!

    Very thought-provoking...

I like your very honest and meaningful view on life and death, and your portrayal of what great sacrifices these honored men and women made for this country and the world. Stunning imagery with a heart-felt message. Best of luck in this contest!!! Peace, Cyn

    How true.

You know it is always sad to view a cementary, but one in which soldiers are buried has a lot of impact. You did indeed write another powerful piece my friend. So sad too especially at this time of year.

I perused this one in quick favourites so did not see the image posted But imagined it as soon as i read the opening lines They set my mind for what was to follow
I often wonder how many of these poor souls would speak in words of anger at, why they were here? Sometimes the sacrifice seems to those outside of this circle is know not and care less
Always a joy to read your work no matter the subject
