Life is but a Glimmering Shard

Small, but only,
Short, but only,
One, but only,
Special desire.

Shining in the dark,
Alone in the dark,
Light in the dark,
A shard in the dark.

Much that life once was
Is forgotten
For the time now is
Of a different age...

Hewn by the One
That always is
That always was
Here and there.

Made sacred by Him
Who has us
Who loves us
Everywhere.

The lives that we now lead
Hang on by a thread
He gives us the choice
But choose we must...

Life is but a Glimmering Shard...

In the dark...

Author notes

This is a poem for the contest.... a poem that really pushed my writing to the edge. I've never had such troubles writing, but yet it came out so smoothly and quickly, never had so much pain in writing, but it came out so effortlessly. I give you, "Life is but a Glimmering Shard." Refering to how life, really is a small thing in this universe, this darkness, and yet life burns on brightly. We just need to not destroy it.

  • I like the way this reads so smoothly, the abruptness of the endings but how they seem to subtly (sp?) slide into eachother. Your writes have changed quite a lot since i was last around, i like it.

I didn't really get what this was about until I read the author notes and it seemed so....not obvious...i guess it made sense. A great poel for such a huge theme!

Hm..quite interesting I must say. I like your take on life here. I'm going to be honest in saying that you dont have many metaphors or imagery. I notice this because i tend to enjoy imagery and metaphorical writes. though this is not to say i didnt enjoy this one. this definetely had feeling and emotion in it. A interesting perspective on life in which i can somewhat agree to a certain extent. thank you so much for taking the time to enter especially since you mentioned writers block has come upon you as of lately. Thanx once again I appreciate it. Have a good one
