RIght because they stare and laugh

Author notes

This is about the hikikomori of Japan. The most popular translation is "recluse". A hikikomori is a person who shuts themselves off from the rest of society and do not leave their homes, either because of or resulting in severe social anxiety. (This is probably over-simplifying it; look it up if you want to know more.)

Like a lot of Japanese poetry, each line is _not_ an entire phrase. You have to re-read and figure out what makes sense if you keep going, or pick out individual within one line or spanning across two, etc. There are multiple stopping/starting points, and some overlap.
