The Eulogy

Turned by evil, the ships they were cast,
Although just as righteous, the sky, it was black.
Requisitioning their enemies as slaves,
They sent lovers and fools below to their graves.
They sought the chalice of ultimate power,
Found nothing and in turn they killed like cowards.

The ship sailed in to find a lonely boy,
He became a man and it took him to joy.
Trusted blood and iron, the two they sailed,
The sea was not enough to hold them jailed.
Until the two fell out of bounds, lost touch,
and the man was forced to drown, heart clutched.

Alone in the dark speckled water swirled with current,
The man kept death far, as long as he could deter it.
Fate only swept the man further from home,
And eventually he realized he would be alone.
As he slept with the stars he saw a painting,
Of something larger than he could be hanging.

The last moments he spent were found in solstice,
As his eyes closed, for the cold was his justice;
He saw a light, first nothing, but it grew intensely,
And the cold bore in and it hurt so immensely;
But the light was too great, and his mind was revived,
His heart swelled with its last beat, but the man, he survived.
