Townes

Missing image
Prologue

There was once a young poet named boz
who at times gives this writer pause.
Dylan he brought back to mind,
Townes Van Zandt led me to find
as I travelled the yellow brick road to OZ.

TOWNES
(an abreviated bio)

Clearer than Dylan,
impact as thrillin'
lyrics travelling down the road
hinting to me of Willy, in code.

Groomed to be governor,
running away as discerner,
lyrics and music leading the way,
for Townes had much to play and say.

Living life with abandon,
the music not done,
unorthodoxy and brilliancy
stolen too soon by a PE.

PE? What is PE? I looked him up because I'd never head of the critter, they said he died possibly from a heart attack, or one other thing I now forget.

Ah B-Loper is like he, he liked the part about him best.

So wait, Loper's nickname is Boz? Why wasn't I informed?

Now Boz was one of Dickens pen names, early on, "Sketches by Boz." Lopes should use that.

A nice tribute. You knew B-Lo back in March

The "Boz" was my invention, not sure if I wanted to call him "Bozo"
      but then he suggested "Loper."

Pulmonary embolism. I was quite familiar with it
for it took me to the emergency room in November 2005
(actually I was dragged by my daughter) as I
was hoping the awful sensations would just go away.
Blood clot that travelled to the lungs.
Not a good thing. In fact, a very bad thing.

With Townes, as I remember the bio, had just come home
from the hsspital, went to bed, a hidden blood clot
in a deep vein ended up in the lungs. End of Townes.

Yes, since March! With blurry eyes I had come back
in January this year for a short time each day.
And one day in March I saw that someone
had started reading my work, one piece after another
after another. Yemish, right? When I read his work
I found this person who OBSERVED and created
stories as he interpreted what he saw.

      An amazing writer.
      Also Yemish, the description.

Of course, Boz...Bozo, odd I failed to make that simple connection. Blame it on being tired...better than a slow brain.

Now see, if I choose a name like that...you can bet I wanna be called Bozo.

Cool, now I have lots of new nicknames...I better be careful and stick with Loper. I can sometimes get annoying.

Being a musician and lover of music I certainly appreciate poetry that is inspired by music and/or musicians.

In fact I think of poetry its own kind of music. Nice piece. Keep playing that music!

Nice to see you here, Everwind.

I was guided to the musician,
      finding I appreciated his music
      and lyrics---and had to clelbrate
      what he had created.

I gotta say the music really makes this write come alive! You certainly planned it so, or it seems that you must have been listening to this while writing because each line has a rhythmic yet random flow to it, and i love it! good job!

      Skilter,
      actually, I was listening
to his music that I found online.
      Tried to find something here
      that expressed the sound,
      and this was as close
      as I could get.
      It seems the performer, himself
      was both "rhythmic" and "random."
      Cool assessment on your part.

Summer, nice to see you here!

    My interest was picqued,
    had to dicsover more,
    as memory held little
    more than the name.

    You are a wonder, Mumsy!
    A tribute to a friend
    is like saying...
"You are always in my heart,
    And will always be remembered..."

well the prologue is the best, of course, because i'm in it!
never seen a biographic poem before, but i like the idea, might have to play with it myself.
i like the first stanza of the body a lot, the flow moves through perfectly and you put in three of my all time favorites!

      Musicians claim immortal fame
as the music, the lyrics live on.

Thanks, boz, for sending me on the road
to find out more about the performer.

Right, the first stanza just wanted "to be!"

      tinker with it!

Thank you, so much, Wayne Leon!
