I stand back and stare at you,
wanting you so bad in my heart
I want to go and talk with you,
but reputations keeps us apart.
You hang with your cool jock friends,
I call myself a proud freak,
but yet we have a connection,
don’t let judgment make us weak.
Why are there social classes?
Why are there cliques at school?
Why is there popularity,
making us all act like fools?
Making us all try to fit in,
try to be someone we’re not.
I will break the social barrier,
I will go against the flow,
I will hold your hand and show them
this is not the way to go.
Because we are who we are
not because of what we wear.
It’s what’s inside that really counts
and that’s what’s worth a care.
I’m not that kind of girl
that will try to impress you
by putting on lots of make-up
because then you’ll fall for who I’m not!
Why are there social classes?
Why are there cliques at school?
Why is there popularity,
making us all act like fools?
Making us all try to fit in,
try to be someone we’re not.
So I will break the social barrier,
I’ll go against the flow too,
I’ll try to hold your hand
and show you
I am the one for you.
Why can’t I tell this to your face
tell you how I really feel,
let’s just face it, it’s not coming out
until you earn my trust appeal.
Then I’ll let you in,
give you a tour,
and then you’ll know
to get the key to my heart
you can’t buy it in a store.
But now I’ll just keep to myself
and watch you from afar,
thinking of you and wondering,
if this battle is raging in you too,
and you secretly watch me from afar.
Oh why are there social classes?
Why are there cliques at school?
Why is there popularity,
making us all act like fools?
Making us all try to fit in,
try to be someone we’re not.
I will break the social barrier
I will go against the flow
I will hold your hand and show them,
this is not the way to go!
Let’s give them something to talk about.
Who cares what they think of us.
We are happy in our own little world
It only matters what you think of you.
I will make a stand,
I will take a chance.
I will make it work,
others’ thoughts don’t mean a thing
and then one day.......
All the geeks and dorks and jocks
and freaks and cheerleaders and nerds
all join hands and mix together,
so the nerd will get the hottie,
and the loser will have friends.
The jock will lose his big ego,
and all discrimination will end!
Why are there social classes?
Why are there cliques at school?
Why is there popularity,
making us all act like fools?
Making us all try to fit in,
try to be someone we’re not.
Let’s all break the social barrier,
break it down till it’s dust.
Break the social barrier,
break the social barrier,
BREAK-the-so-cial-barr-ie-r!!!!!

way to write a great song!
This was a feast of a song!
and dear poetess...what a surprise awaits you upon the
10th anniversary of your high school reunion.
You'll drop your jaw, and say oh my gawd....
I can't believe...i was intimidated by ...them!
ears/Seattle you'll just have to trust on this.
well written, and what a great song!

A passionate and earnest expression of your feelings towards separation and segregation. A persons worth lies in their integrity and how they treat others with kindness and respect. Background, money and social status can't buy or give us those qualities, we either have them or we don't. There are good and worthy or bad and worthless in any area of society. Learn to use your integrity and find those true souls that are on this earth but not of it.

A very good song. One I think any child in this counrty can connect with, at least those of us who weren't priveleged enought to BE one of those "perfect people". We're all nerds, geeks or freaks at the core, and you're right, the discrimination is as stupid as it is ugly.

VERY VERY VERY AWESOME, I couldn't have said it much better myself, this is extremely well written, I only suggest adding a bit of vocabulary.

I could feel it as a song as I read this. It seems when we are young we are all trying so hard to find ourselves that we don't take time to look behind all the masks of life that we where. To impress someone is the most importance at this stage of life. As you get older the masks fall to the ground and we stress to be seen as we are. All different, yet all blending in...not seeing many differences, only if you let someone in. Life is funny this way...I enjoyed your song/poem...many will relate..this has been going on from the begining of time..well done , thanks for sharing

dont worrie, college is better.

Am sure many feel like this; all the social groups that are like barriers to some from joining. Color, religion, clothing, appearance, always something that keeps people apart; and what an uproar if they mix at any time! Sentiments well expressed in these lines; easy to read and understand. Good flow as well. Liked the repetition - like a song chorus.

-
wow
I love all of it...all the lines are just terrific. -
great
this really does touch upon so many high school experiences. -
Amazing!
I think that is absoultely wonderful! I love your chorus. It all flowed together quite nicely. You have quite a talent I must say. I envy you. This is wonderful topic in which to write about and you did a wonderful job at expressing your throughts and feelings through words. The theme of this song is breath taking. Wonderful, wonderful job hun. =]

fabulous!!
my dear young friend,
there is a very famous saying and it goes like this
opposites attract.
and only those who dare truly live!!
life is so short my dear go for your hunk
and be happy my dear.
oxox -
Amen!!! We need to...wow...do EVERYTHING you said. Schools shouldn't be this way.

-
This really sums up a lot of other peoples feelings too I think. I fell for a girl in school, and as you probably already know kids aren't the most open minded people, I just wish I could have done something to break this social barrier. One day someone will, I am sure of it.

Oops...I didnt mean to add that comment, it wasnt finished yet. Anyways, I love the repeating verse. Great job and good luck in the contest!
